Advanced Placement (AP)

What is the AP Program?

Fishers High School is proud to offer 32 Advanced Placement (AP) courses. These courses are college-level courses and the curriculum is designed and monitored by The College Board. Students in these courses are expected to participate in the Advanced Placement testing program in May of each year. Students in these courses have the opportunity, based on their exam results, to potentially earn college credit for coursework completed in high school. We believe that all college-bound students should complete at least one AP course prior to graduation from FHS. We encourage enrollment in subject areas of highest interest. To the right, you will see a full list of our AP course offerings at FHS. Please consult the appropriate department course listings for a full description of these courses.

AP Capstone

AP Capstone is a diploma program from the College Board. It is built around two year-long AP courses: AP Seminar and AP Research. Rather than teaching subject-specific content, these courses develop students' stills in research, analysis, evidence-based arguments, collaboration, writing, and presenting. Students who complete the program can earn a prestigious diploma/distinction, valued by institutions across the United States.

Capstone Requirements & Key Coursework

In order to earn the AP Capstone Diploma, students must complete the following requirements:

AP Seminar (earn a score of 3 or higher)
AP Research (earn a score of 3 or higher)
Four additional AP exams (scores of 3 or higher)

Students can also earn an AP Capstone Certificate with the successful completion of Seminar & Research but not the four additional AP exams.

The following sequence of courses is strongly encouraged for students considering the AP Capstone Program. Students are also strongly encouraged to take a speech course.

AP Classroom Information

Getting Students Registered Using Join Codes

Teachers will grant students access to their AP Classroom using "join codes." Course "sections" have already been created for teachers in AP Classroom; students will just need to retrieve / write down the "join code”. Here is a set of easy-to-follow instructions for students on how to join your class section(s).

College Board Student Accounts

In order to join, students will need to log into their student-generated College Board account. Most students should already have one from PSAT, SAT, or AP testing in years' past. If students have never created a College Board account, they should create a new one. If students have created one in the past but forget their log-in credentials, they should not create a second account. This is important for transcripts and college applications purposes, as having all test scores (PSAT, SAT, AP) with one account makes like significantly easier for students down the road.

College Board mandates that all accounts be student-generated; we cannot create school-based College Board accounts. As such, any account issues must be resolved between the student and College Board. The school will not be able to assist with these issues.

AP Exam Registration

Every year, students enrolled in AP courses have an opportunity to take AP exams in May to qualify for potential college credit. College Board's process for exam registration & payment, though, occurs in the fall. This year, the deadline for AP exam registration is September 30.

There is a four-step process for AP exam registrations:

1. Students log into their myap.collegeboard.org account.
2. For each AP course they're taking, students join the online sections in AP Classroom using teachers' join codes.
3. Students need to actively confirm their Exam Decision. The system defaults to "Undecided." Students must actively switch this Exam Decision to "Yes" if they want to take the exam.
4. Students/Parents must submit payment via E-Funds through Skyward

As an FYI -- please know the following documents will be communicated via Parent Square to all parents of students enrolled in an AP course.

2027 AP Exam Calendar

The 2027 AP exam administration runs from May 3 to May 14. Late AP exams will run the week of May 17 - 21.
